Welcome to the Board of Education

The Vacaville Unified School District Governing Board consists of seven members. School Board elections are held on even-numbered years, with members elected to serve staggered four-year terms.

 

Basic functions of the Board are to establish the policies by which the schools of the District are to be administered and to select the Superintendent and staff who will implement those policies. The Board shall be responsible for the organization and operation of the District in conformity with the rules and regulations of the State Board of Education, and the laws of the State and Federal Government.

 

Regularly Scheduled Board Meetings:

 

Board meetings will be held at the VUSD Educational Services Center located at 401 Nut Tree Drive and are generally held the first and third Thursday of each month. During the months of January, February, July, and December there is only one meeting due to school breaks/holidays. Also, during the month of June the meetings will be held on the second and fourth Thursdays. Special meetings are called as needed. Please call the superintendent's Office at 453-6101 to verify meeting dates, times and locations.

  • Superintendent Shamieh shared photos and information from Pi Day activities at Buckingham Charter Magnet High School; Jepson Middle School's "Schools to Watch" re-designation ceremony; VUSD's School Attendance Review Board (SARB) designation as a model SARB; the upcoming 2019 Community Conference; and the district's quarterly newsletter. Superintendent Shamieh and Assistant Superintendent Chris Hulett also honored two Classified Employees of the Year and the 2019 Certificated Employees of the Year:

Student Recognition

  • Vaca Pena Middle School Principal Colleen Moe recognized Alyssa Liboon and Ethan Rosa, Vaca Pena’s Outstanding Students.

Staff Reports and Presentations

  • Vaca Pena Middle School Report: Principal Colleen Moe, Assistant Principal Daniel Crombie, Dean of Learning Support Mike Boles, and student Ethan Rosa provided an overview of the school's mission, systems of supports, programs, activities, and school-wide areas of focus.
  • Safety Response Update: Director of Communications and Community Engagement Jennifer Leonard provided an update on VUSD’s emergency response protocols and a review of the components of the district’s response plan.
  • Local Control Accountability (LCAP) Update: Assistant Superintendent Ed Santopadre provided an update on the progress of the 2019-20 VUSD Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP).

Action Items – the following items were approved by the Board:

 

  1. Approval of Second Interim Report for Fiscal Year 2018-19.
  2. Adoption of Resolution No. 25, 2018-19, Ernest Kimme Charter Academy for Independent Learning Charter Renewal.
  3. Approval of Employment Agreement for Assistant Superintendent.
  4. Approval of Agreement with Hibser Yamauchi Architects, Inc. for the Brown Street Site Improvement Project.

** Approval of the Revised 2019-20 Student Calendars was tabled; action on the calendars will be taken at the March 28, 2019 Governing Board meeting.
